Children may enjoy visiting the playground near the end of the walk. The playground also has picnic shelters if you need a bite to eat. Note that you may need to zoom in on the map to view all of the markers, since some of them are located close together.

This is a tree tour in Powhatan State Park, aimed at helping you locate and learn more about specific types of trees in the park. It is based on an existing tree tour created by the Riverine chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalists Program. It combines parts of the Big Woods and Cabin trails within the park. As you follow the track, note each upcoming waypoint. Each waypoint will alert you that a tagged tree is nearby. Look for a plaque that identifies the tree. The plaque will either be attached directly to the tree at eye level or sit on a post right in front of the tree.
Each plaque not only identifies the tree, but also has a QR code. If you have a QR reader on your smartphone, scan this code to learn more about the tree. Alternatively, you can access the same information by pressing the Web link in each marker on the Ramblr map screen. If you stop off at the Park Visitor Center, you can also pick up a brochure with a brief description of each tree. This information is replicated in the marker descriptions, so the brochure is not needed unless you would like a souvenir.
The hike itself is fairly easy, with little elevation gain. The tree plaques are concentrated on the first half of the walk, along the Big Woods trail. All in all, this makes for a pleasant stroll in the woods.
